CFY

IEP Therapy CF – Program

Your Clinical Fellowship Year is an exciting time. As an SLP owned and operated company, IEP Therapy understands and has been there too. We know you want to get the best CF experience possible, and it is usually the most important thing in determining where you will work your first year. CF’s look forward to working with a supportive supervisor who is readily available and provides excellent feedback and encouragement throughout their incredibly important CF year. We have all heard the horror stories from professors and previous graduates about their CFY supervision not turning out the way they wanted it to. Most of the time, these CF supervisors are carrying their own caseloads, have families to attend to, and are not given extra pay or incentives to act as CF supervisors.

At IEP Therapy we strive to be different, providing new graduates with an exemplary Clinical Fellowship experience is our top priority. Our therapy managers, who provide your CF supervision, never carry a caseload of their own, so they can solely focus on supporting you. They take pride in offering support and suggestions while allowing you to learn and grow in an environment of positivity.

At IEP Therapy, here is what you can expect:

Excellent Therapy Management Team

Our therapy management team work exceptionally well together. They have a combined experience of over 25 years working as SLPs in the school setting. With a demeanor of professionalism and approachability, they aim to bring out the best in each of our clinical fellows. Open communication is highly valued while working to provide individualized support to meet the needs of each unique CF. Our therapy managers do not carry their own therapy caseloads, which gives them the time required to provide quality CF supervision.

Onboarding Virtual Meeting

Usually before school starts, Your therapy managers will host a live onboarding meeting to review IEP Therapy’s policies, procedures and forms specific to IEP Therapy.

Initial Orientation Visits

Your CF supervisor will visit you in person or virtually within the first week or two to see how you are getting set up, ensure you have resources at your disposal, answer any questions you may have, and determine if there are any additional supports necessary to help you start your CFY off on the right foot!

CF Meetings

Monthly/Bi-monthly meetings, including a “pre” CF meeting, are held Virtually with the therapy managers and your fellow CFs. If you don’t live close to the Indianapolis area, you may participate in monthly meetings through webcam! We discuss a topic and related materials are shared at each meeting. This is a great opportunity to ask questions, learn something new, or share experiences/tools that work well for you!

Observations

At least 6 hours of direct observation are required for each of the three segments of your clinical fellow year for a total of 18 hours. Observations include a variety of settings (e.g. pull-out therapy, push-in therapy, a staffing, case conference, evaluation, etc.) so that your supervisor can assess all of your skills as an SLP. You and your supervisor will set up days/times for the observations. Observation times may vary in length (e.g. two 1-hour visits, one 2-hour visit, etc.) More observations may be necessary due to special circumstances. Feedback is given in person when possible, and a written summary will be sent to you as well.

SLP Clinical Fellowship Report and Rating Form

The SLP CF Report and Rating Form will be completed by you and your CF Mentors. A meeting is held at the end of each three-month segment to review and discuss your progress in each area.

24/7 Support

The support for each CF is different based on personality and needs. However, your CF Supervisors are available through e-mail or phone at any time. We will also check-in with you periodically. Most importantly, this is YOUR CF year! Please give us feedback as well, so that we can work together to ensure that you have everything you need to be a successful and confident SLP!!

Our Testimonials:

“When I was determining the type of clinical fellowship that I envisioned for myself as a newly graduated speech language pathologist, my top priority was support. IEP Therapy’s clinical fellow program is outlined clearly and includes monthly clinical fellow meetings focusing on relevant areas in speech language pathology. These meetings were incredibly informative and provided materials/information that would be difficult to create and research on my own while managing a full caseload.

At IEP Therapy, I received extensive support from all employees, including therapy managers, other therapists, and administrative staff. The Therapy Managers were wonderful who did not have their own caseload, so their time was dedicated to supervising clinical fellows and managing other therapists. They are responsive, are always willing to extend help, and are competent and educated therapists themselves. They are incredible resources to learn from and have helped me to grow into a more confident, knowledgeable speech language pathologist. IEP Therapy’s clinical fellow program is one that I would highly recommend, as it provided extensive support, and so much more.”

“I could not have asked for a better company to complete my clinical fellowship year. Acclimating to the school environment and my newfound responsibilities was daunting initially, but I was welcomed by an incredible team with IEP therapy. I was provided with two CF mentors whose guidance and encouragement made all the difference during my first year. Their extensive clinical knowledge, paired with the everyday lessons and affirmation, transformed my confidence and preparedness as a Speech Pathologist. Additionally, I have received monthly therapy resources to aid in student therapy sessions, along with scheduled meetings providing opportunity to collaborate with fellow team members. I am fortunate to be surrounded by peers who devote so much of their time in creating the best possible experience for the children, the parents, and the staff. My sincerest thanks to all of you for such a wonderful first year!”
