School-Based Speech Language Pathologist Career

Being a Speech Language Pathologist in the school setting is an extremely rewarding career. Using your imagination and critical thinking skills, you will have the opportunity to create interactive therapy sessions for students. Speech and language pathologists have a wide knowledge base to assist students with speech and language impairments in accessing their education and being successful in the school setting. Additionally, schools utilize a team-based approach to help students with complex educational needs. The team brings together the skills and expertise of multiple professionals to plan and manage the unique needs of the students. Over time, you will see students begin to use what they have learned from you as they implement these skills into their daily lives. The school-based setting is ideal for people who are really looking to make a long-term difference in the lives of their students.

Working in the school setting provides more flexibility than a traditional clinic, nursing home, or hospital setting. A school-based calendar typically runs on 7.5-hour days for only 10 months out of the year. While some of our team members work full-time contract positions, others work part-time. These part-time positions are the perfect fit for SLPs who are looking to work in multiple settings, or people interested in more time off. Our team members enjoy having all major holidays off, as well as fall, winter, spring, and summer breaks. Although IEP Therapy only contracts with schools, some of our therapists supplement PRN work in a couple different settings over the summer or through extended vacation breaks.

Working at IEP Therapy provides an additional benefit that most therapists just do not get – SUPPORT. Our company is therapist owned and operated. The CEO of IEP Therapy has worked in the school setting and understands the many challenges special education professionals face. We believe in building and supporting our team members in whatever way they need. To do so, we have therapy managers, who do not carry a caseload of their own, and whose sole responsibility is to help you succeed in your career. Our therapy managers proactively reach out to all our team members at minimum once a month. Each therapist has different needs and support requests, so we tailor our support program accordingly.

Ultimately, IEP Therapy is looking for the most talented Speech Language Pathologists we can find. We value hardworking, imaginative, organized, diligent, and professional therapists who exceed our clients’ expectations of what an SLP can do in schools. With that said, we know that these talented individuals have many options, so we have a competitive hourly pay scale, as well as a competitive contract benefits package.
