Assessments: Their Purpose and Value
At IEP we have access to many different assessments depending on the needs of the client. We can assess cognitive functioning as well as academic areas. Some children come to us with assessments already done elsewhere. We can use these tests plus our observations of the child to determine how to best help the child.
The Neurodevelopmental Assessment is the most comprehensive assessment that we use.
Neurodevelopmental Assessment At IEP we use Dr. Mel Levine's PEERAMID 2 and PEEX 2 assessment tool for neuropsychological functioning and readiness for learning. These assessments help to identify specific reasons for a child's struggles. The Neurodevelopmental Examination is designed to provide standardized observations of children’s functional health and its relationship to their neurodevelopmental and behavioral states. Recommendations for further testing, interventions, remediation and suitable accommodations are suggested. Strengths and weaknesses are identified as well as an individual's preferred learning style. This is reviewed with the family and the individual to "demystify" the struggles that the individual is having.
